Chocolate Chip Cookies with Maple Syrup
These babies may be healthy but that doesn’t mean they aren’t tasty! They are moist, full of chocolate chips and sweet from the maple syrup. These healthy chocolate chip cookies are so simple to make, great to make with kids, perfect to make in big batches and great to freeze!
What do these cookies have in them?
Now that is the real question isn’t it? These cookies have eight ingredients in total!
Almond flour
Baking soda
Spelt flour
Salt
Maple Syrup
Oil
Vanilla
Chocolate Chips
Is spelt flour gluten free and why is it good for you?
Spelt flour is a good source of fiber but not gluten free because it is made from a grain. Spelt is an ancient grain with a tough husk which protects the nutrients inside.
How to make these cookies from scratch:
These cookies are crazy easy to make!
Simply whisk all the dry ingredients together and in a separate bowl mix together vanilla, oil, and maple syrup. Add all the ingredients together and mix well, adding in chocolate chips.
Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes.
Slightly cool on the pan and then transfer to a cooling rack to cool.
Are chocolate chip cookies bad for you?
Chocolate chip cookies have a lot of refined sugar in them which isn’t necessarily good for you. Now, I am not one to refuse sugar but these cookies definitely offer a healthier alternative.
What makes these cookies healthy?
These cookies are made with maple syrup which omits the refined sugar normally in chocolate chip cookies. These cookies also have spelt flour which is good for you too!
Are this cookie recipe vegan?
If you use vegan chocolate, this recipe is vegan friendly!
Can I freeze my chocolate chip cookies?
I wouldn’t recommend freezing the dough as it tends to be on the wetter side and not great for freezing. But it takes no time at all to make the dough, and then you can freeze the cookies after they are baked!
What oil should I use for this recipe?
You can honestly use any kind of baking oil in this recipe! I like to use olive oil, but you can use vegetable, canola, coconut oil, etc.

These are very good. Need to add to flatten dough in directions tho. My balls of dough stayed balls mostly. Flattening in palm was perfect. Very good recipe. Gets the chocolate chip cookie thing done but not sickly sweet. I used teff flour in place of spelt. Omitted 2 extra tbl maple syrup. I’m keeping recipe. Thx!!
