I love this recipe as a yummy dessert to finish off a great meal! And the leftovers are perfect for breakfast the next morning! It’s best served warm though. And also, have you ever tried apple crisp with cheese? So good!
Usually when I think of no or low sugar desserts, it doesn’t seem very appetizing. So I was actually shocked at how delicious this recipe turned out! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
What kind of apples are best for Apple Crisp?
The best apples for apple crisp or other baked goods are Granny Smith, Honey crisp or golden delicious. I used a mix of Gala and Honey crisp and I also love Granny Smith!
How thin should I slice the apples?
You should slice the apples for your crisp about 1/4 inch thick! This will insure they aren’t too thick so they will cook well, but won’t turn into mush.
Do I have to peel the apples for Low Sugar Apple Crisp Recipe?
It is all up to you! Peeled apples just has a smoother taste for the finished dessert but sometimes I’ll leave the skin on the apples and it still tastes good! Try it both ways and see which one you prefer!

Can I leave my Apple Crisp out overnight?
It’s best to store your apple crisp in the fridge to keep it tasting fresh and pro long the shelf life!
How long does Low Sugar Apple Crisp last?
If you cover it and store it in the refrigerator it will last about 4-5 days.
Do I have to use whole wheat flour?
Nope not at all! If you would rather use white flour that is totally fine too. Whole wheat just adds a more healthy option!
Can I double Low Sugar Apple Crisp recipe?
This recipe makes a 13″ by 9″ glass pan, but you can by all means double this recipe and make two pans! Or you can even half it, and make an 8″ by 8″ pan!

Low Sugar Apple Crisp Recipe
Ingredients
- 1.5 cup whole wheat flour
- 2 cup oats
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1 1/4 cup butter melted
- 1 cup honey
- 4-6 apples cored, peeled and sliced thin
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Peel, core and slice the apples.
- Sprinkle them with water and lemon juice and 1 teaspoon cinnamon.
- Spread apples in the bottom of a 13" by 9" baking dish.
- In a bowl, mix together melted butter, honey, vanilla.
- Add in baking soda, salt, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon and oats.
- Once mixed well, spread over top of apples.
- Bake for 25 minutes and serve warm.
