What can you substitute pumpkin puree with?
You can use butternut or acorn squash if desired. Or if you don’t have a pumpkin to make puree with, canned puree works just as well!
Now for the real question, what is the difference between pumpkin squares and pumpkin bars?

Pumpkin Squares Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 eggs
- 1 2/3 cup sugar
- 1 cup canola or vegetable oil
- 2 cups pumpkin puree
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
Instructions
- Grease or line with parchment paper a 13" by 9" baking dish.
- Whisk together egg, oil, sugar, vanilla and pumpkin.
- In another bowl mix together the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and spices.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until combined but don't over mix!
- Pour batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Bake for 35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Cool and serve as desired.
