Chocolate Crinkle Cookies Recipe is my new favourite cookie recipe! They are chewy and soft in the center and the outside has a slight crunch. These cookies are pure chocolate goodness made from scratch, yet so easy to make. Another name we have for them is snowballs, because when you roll out the balls and cover them in powdered sugar they look like little snowballs!
Chocolate Crinkle Cookies Recipe
These little babies are the perfect Christmas/New Years Eve/ Wintertime treat! Little chocolate bites covered in powdered sugar. They taste a bit like a brownie with the fudgy centers! So much deliciousness.
What do I need to make Chocolate Crinkle Cookies Recipe?
You will need just 9 ingredients:
- Vegetable or canola oil
- White sugar
- Cocoa powder
- Baking powder
- Powdered sugar
Is confectioners sugar the same as powdered sugar?
Yes, powdered sugar, icing sugar and confectioners sugar is all the same thing just different names.
Can I freeze Chocolate Crinkle Cookies Recipe?
There are three ways to freeze these cookies. You can either make them up and then freeze them in airtight containers or freezer safe bags for up to 3 months. Make sure they are in single layers on parchment or waxed paper so they don’t freeze together.
Or you can make the balls and freeze them before baking. (Don’t roll them in the powdered sugar until right before you bake them! ) That way they are ready to pull out, thaw, roll in the sugar and bake anytime you want!
Third way, is to just freeze the cookie dough. It will stay good frozen in a freezer safe bag for a few months.
Is Chocolate Crinkle Cookies Recipe still good if you make it in advance?
These cookies actually still taste delicious when they are a few days old because the insides stay chewy! Keep them refrigerated if they last longer than a few days. They are okay to sit out on the counter for a few days too.
Can I skip putting the cookie dough in the fridge before rolling out balls and baking?
I don’t recommend skipping this step. I know, it’s hard. You may have stumbled on this recipe and needed to make it asap or just simply don’t want to wait! I get that. However, just letting the dough chill for even an hour is important. It will be too soft if you don’t. Overnight is best, but opt for a few hours if that isn’t possible.
What size do I make Chocolate Crinkle Cookies?
How big or small you make these cookies is entirely up to you! I used a scale and made each one 30 grams and they were the perfect size. If you want bigger, just adjust the baking time for a few more minutes.
How long does it take to make Chocolate Crinkle Cookies Recipe?
You will need about 10 minutes to mix the ingredients, 10 minutes to roll the balls out and coat in powdered sugar and 10 minutes to bake. The biggest portion of time is the chilling of the dough. This takes, at minimum 1 hour. So make sure to plan for that when you start this recipe!
